Meadow Hive

Meadow Hive

Keep a pixel bee hive alive.

A cozy honey bee game for iPhone. Feed your colony, grow it from a single frame to a full hive, and learn how real bees live. Just don't let it die.

Real bee biology

Everything runs on what bees really make

No coins and no gems. You spend honey, bee bread and wax, and each one is made the way real bees make it.

Nectar→Honey

Honey feeds everyone

Foragers bring nectar home. House bees fan it dry until it ripens into honey, then cap it with wax. Harvest the frame, fill the jars, feed the colony.

“One bee makes about 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in her whole life.”
— Hazel

Pollen→Bee bread

Bee bread grows the babies

Pollen is packed into cells and sealed with honey, where it ferments into bee bread. Pop the ripe cells in the Nursery and keep the babies fed.

“Babies grow about 1,000 times heavier in less than a week.”
— The Queen

Honey→Wax

Wax builds the hive

Young workers turn honey into wax and draw it out into comb. More comb means room for more bees, and a bigger home to grow into.

“It takes about 6 to 8 pounds of honey to make 1 pound of wax.”
— Hazel

A hive that keeps living while you're away

Food and babies run down in real time. Check in a few times a day, collect what the bees made while you were gone, and keep everyone fed.

Bee jobs

Pick up a shift

A worker bee changes jobs as she grows up, so every job is a quick game, and every game helps the hive.

Lunch Rush

Flick the right food to the right babies before the shift ends. Royal jelly for the tiny ones, bee bread for the big ones, and bin the wasps.

Feeds the babies · raises new bees

Nectar Rush

Fly the meadow, chain flowers of one kind and bring a full bag of nectar home. Then bank it, or push on for extra and dodge the wasps.

Fills Food · brings honey and bee bread

Bee Pile

Drop bees into a honey jar. Two of a kind merge into the next bee up, from a pollen puff all the way to a Mega Queen. Don't let it overflow.

Earns honey · fills Food

And now and then, trouble. Robbers come for the honey every few days, so guard the door. A wild swarm may rest in the big tree for a few hours. And a crowded or hungry colony can swarm out: catch it before it flies off for good.

Free to start

Simple and fair

  • Chapter 1 is free. Build your first home and move up to a nuc.
  • The full journey is $4.99, once. Chapters 2 and 3: room to grow and a meadow in bloom.
  • Ads only when you ask. Watch one for a second chance in a bee job, or for more paid shifts once the day’s are done. Nothing plays between screens.
  • No account. Your hive lives on your phone and plays offline.
Can my colony really die?

Yes. If food or baby food runs out for a day, the bees leave or starve. A swarm resting on the big tree can still be caught and brought home, and a new player's hive can't be lost in its first three days.

Do I have to play every day?

Two or three short visits a day suit the hive best. Alerts warn you before trouble, and quiet hours hold them until morning.

Is the bee stuff real?

The way the colony works is based on how real honey bees live: honey from nectar, bee bread from pollen, wax from glands under young workers' bellies, swarms, robbers and all.

Who is it for?

Anyone 13 and up who likes a cozy game with a little risk in it. Everything in it is kid-safe.
